Coms gives you a real personal telephone number that is connected
to the Internet, so that you can make and receive low-cost calls and manage your
messages where ever you have an
IP connection.
Ubiquitous broadband internet access in homes, offices and WiFi hotspots is rapidly
changing the telecommunications industry, and millions of businesses and individuals
are now making calls across the Internet with a broadband phone service to save
money and utilise new features such as advances messaging and location independence
that quite literally lets you take your landline with you wherever you go.
Unlike Skype, which uses a proprietary protocol, Coms uses the industry SIP(1) standard
to transmit telephone calls across the internet, also called
VoIP or Voice over IP. This means our broadband phone service is compatible
with 1000s of devices from leading manufactures such as Cisco, Linksys, Nokia, Motorola,
Siemens and Sony. You can use the Coms service to make and receive voip phone calls
with any SIP(1) enabled device be it a program on your computer, a
WiFi mobile or a dual mode GSM/3G phone. (see our section
voice over ip phone for more details)
Once you consider VoIP subscribers currently represent less than 1% of the global
mobile phone market, you can begin to comprehend the scale of the market opportunity.
However, VoIP is not just a phone replacement, it is evolving communications and
adding voice to a wide range of new services such as instant messaging (IM) and
pay-per-call advertising (PPC).
Coms, the broadband phone service, was founded in 2000 by Jason Drummond to offer
these exciting converged telecommunications services to global customers. Coms owns
its own VoIP network and sells its services,
voip plans, directly to individuals and businesses and through retailers and
other distributors. Coms plc is an independent company and its shares are
listed on the London Stock Exchange (AIM:COMS).
